Kyrielle 73

A Reflection on the 73rd Psalm

Is it for nothing we live just

and righteous, holy in His sight,

when all around is greed and lust?

Will not our God always do right?

The world can be cruel and cold;

around us there’s more dark than light;

the evil laugh, and count their gold.

Will not our God always do right?

The culture revels, full of pride,

and violence is its delight;

vulgarity reigns, far and wide.

Will not our God always do right?

What hope is there, when all seems lost?

And yet, we’ll carry on the fight,

not fainting, nor counting the cost.

Will not our God always do right?

The wicked will make a bad end,

will surely fall from their great height;

on Providence we will depend.

Will not our God always do right?

Our hearts were grieved, for we forgot

the scope of our Creator’s might;

His grace and mercy fail us not.

Will not our God always do right?
